Pros:
- Actually works to eliminate bad breath throughout the day
- While following the regimen, you never experience morning breath!
- The mouthwash doesn't burn your tongue off with its sting.
- Food doesn't taste distorted after brushing teeth (think orange juice after Colgate or Crest)
- Enhances self-esteem :)
Cons:
- Expensive - both the mouthwash and toothpaste run at about $9 each and that only lasts for about 2 months or less. Deals happen, but it's best to buy in bulk.
- Mouthwash tastes horrible, and the toothpaste has very little flavor at all.
- Must consistently use to maintain the effects.
- Takes about a week to kick in, during which your tongue feels really awkward.
Bottom Line: If you have a breath problem, the cons are worth it. I was once given a whole bagful of the Therabreath products (which the buyer had gotten for free) and figured I'll give it a try. It was amazing, really, to see how the stuff works. It contains no alcohol so the mouth doesn't dry up like it does after traditional products. If you decide to go ahead with it, make sure you use both the rinse and paste together. You do not need to use it 3x a day (as per instructions on the bottles), but be sure to use in conjunction with floss.
NOTE: This was reviewed a while ago and the products have since been updated. Efficacy is the same for both but tastes have greatly improved!

I heard of this. I think I've seen it around the house. Gotta try it! Thanks for the review. These things are really helpful!
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you see beneficial results :)
ReplyDeleteWoah, sounds complicated! I think I'll stick to my regular toothpaste. Colgate baking soda and perioxide with whitening. That works for me:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info though!
OK! It's a good thing, itsagift, that you didn't read Dr. Katz's Bad Breath Bible (the neat pamphlet that comes with the Therabreath products). Otherwise you'd never be able to use regular toothpaste. He claims that they all contain sodium lauryth/lauryl sulfate (a scientific term for alcohol) which dry out the mouth and actually cause breath problems!
ReplyDeleteiRiR-these studies keep changing by the minute! That's why I use Listerine Strips, or better yet, my fave-gum that gives your mouth a fresh minty, taste.
ReplyDeleteItsagift, Listerine strips have been proven numerous times to cause damage to the mouth! They are too harsh on the tastebuds and tissue. I advise against them. I once lost my sense of taste for a day due to Listerine strips. Both Listerine and gum are only temporary solutions to someone who has long-term problems.
ReplyDeleteWell isn't TheraBreath a temporary solution as well? As soon as someone would stop following this whole regimen, they'd be back to where they started, no?
ReplyDeleteTheraBreath works for the entire 24-hour day, not just a half hour or so (the effects of toothpaste and standard mouthwash). This is what I meant by temporary. Of course, should you stop following the regimen, the effects of TheraBreath will wear off.
